HOLDEN, LA – November 27, 2017 – Ferrara, a leading manufacturer of custom built, heavy duty fire apparatus, announced the delivery of eight (8) new Custom Pumpers to the Detroit Fire Department (DFD).
The delivery of these eight pumpers marks the beginning of a pumper fleet replacement for the Detroit Fire Department. Deputy Fire Commissioner, David Fornell, stated “We are excited to receive the new Ferrara apparatus that are replacing our old fleet. Special thanks to Mayor Mike Duggan and Executive Fire Commissioner Eric Jones for making this purchase happen.”
The new Custom Pumpers were specifically engineered to fit into older fire stations throughout Detroit and handle the rigorous demands placed on the apparatus through high call volume and extreme weather conditions.
Built on the Ferrara Cinder™ custom chassis, the new pumpers feature:
- Cummins 450 HP engine and Allison transmission
- Stainless steel body with low hose bed designed to fit unique DFD hose load
- Overall height less than 9’ 5” and overall length of 28’ with a short wheelbase of 160”
- 52 feet of ladders
- 1,500 GPM mid-ship pump and 500 gallon water tank
- EMS compartment in the cab
The delivery of these eight pumpers follows the recent delivery of two Ferrara 100 foot aerial platforms to the Detroit Fire Department. Ferrara Apparatus Salesman, Eric Adams, added “Ferrara is delighted to have renewed our relationship with the Detroit Fire Department and begin building fire trucks for the city once again.
